Munich Sightseeing and Excursion Links

From: Munich, Germany

Munich photo - New City Hall The Glockenspiel of Munich's Neues Rathaus (New City Hall) isn't as old as it looks: The building, including the mechanical clock, was completed in the early 1900s.

Viator: Munich our partner
Book city sightseeing tours, day trips to rural Bavaria or Salzburg, and airport transfers  online before you leave home. Prices are in euros, British pounds, Australian dollars, or U.S. dollars.

Mike's Bike Tours Munich
Tour the town on a two-wheeler, or keep both feet on the ground with a walking tour. (Michael Lasher's site is also a useful source of online maps and other tourist information.)

If you'd like to venture outside Munich, read:

Dachau Concentration Camp Memorial Site europeforvisitors.com
The first of Nazi Germany's death camps is in the Munich suburbs, and it's easy to reach by S-Bahn. You can take a guided tour or explore the camp and its museum on your own.

Garmisch-Partenkirchen europeforvisitors.com
Germany's top alpine resort has world-class skiing and snowboarding, hiking trails, and other activities to keep you busy in winter or summer. It's also a convenient base for day trips to Oberammergau, Mittenwald, and villages in neighboring Austria.

Zugspitze europeforvisitors.com
No trip to the Bavarian Alps is complete without a cogwheel-railway and cablecar ascent of Germany's highest mountain near Garmisch-Partenkirchen. Come for skiing, snowboarding, and spectacular year-round views of four countries.

Salzburg, Austria is also worth a visit, and it's only a two-hour trip from Munich. See my Salzburg article and Cheryl Imboden's Switzerland & Austria Travel Planner: Salzburg for more information on Austria's prettiest city.
